ORIGINS THIS IS MY PLANET: KIM FOWLEY

On my travel to the USA in 1980 I met with legendary producer Kim Fowley who had not much earlier formed The Runaways and had them performing Suburban Girl ( Suburban Boy with changed lyrics) in their set. We sat in his apartment in North Hollywood and he brainstormed an idea for my next album. There was talk of recording it in Venice Beach with his “punk crew” but after a few delays I had to return to Aus.  He did however listen to my idea for an album that was about an Aussie boy leaving home, travelling through the UK and the US and then returning home. He gave me the song titles NORTH OF THE EQUATOR, MILLION MILES FROM HOME, BURIED IN MY OWN BACKYARD. His original notes are here with my later notes added in darker texta.  Image

  1. Interesting stuff Dave.

  2. & yes there in the origins lies “guess who,s coming to dinner” with the classic lines of ‘ I couldn’t,t eat the chicken ‘cos it brings me out in spots, & my stomach wouldn’t,t listen &other toilet wouldn’t,t flush, so I gave it a kick & it came back at me with a rush’. As well as ‘ mama I know you rather have a Jew or a nigger, but every thing gonna be all right, please just let him stay one night, oh I love him…guess who,s coming to dinner’ indeed l agree with Roland as he says keep them coming. ..
